Since 1984, the Osteria del Vicolo Nuovo has offered wonderful years of great food and passion. The 17th-century rooms are dominated by the warm laughter of Ambra Lenini, professional sommelier and a born hostess, and the more discreet friendliness of Rosa Tozzoli. In the kitchen, Stefania, Miriam, Samira, Florina and Simona reign supreme: an all-female orchestra and a winning combination. Always lively, the tavern has even managed to transform the narrow street outside into a gastronomic stage and in summer, the magic is renewed daily. Traffic suddenly gives way to tables and sunshades for lunches or candle-lit dinners. Depending on the season, customers can begin with courgette flowers stuffed with Ricotta cheese from the Santerno Valley, spinach and squacquerone cheese tart, traditional select cold cuts served with piadina and fabulous baby octopus in extra-virgin olive oil. Then there’s hand-rolled fresh pasta such as tortellini in broth, tagliatelle with woodland Porcini mushrooms, strozzapreti with clams and baby cuttlefish from the Adriatic or Imola garganelli with local shallots and pancetta, as well as spelt soups and risottos, always very popular. To follow tasty meat dishes, in particular duck in Sangiovese wine, or fish from the Adriatic and delicious desserts, the tavern’s strength. These include zuppa inglese (a kind of trifle), custard filled cannoli with melted chocolate, zabaglione with fruit in syrup and exceptional torta sabbiosa (a type of sponge cake) served with mascarpone. |
